What is Gulf Coast Community Services Association?
Gulf Coast Community Services Association is Texas' largest Community Action Agency. Its mission in Harris County is to help low-income residents become self-sufficient. It does this by offering a variety of services, including housing counseling, senior services, adult education classes, summer youth services, after-school programs, clothing and school supply vouchers, food pantries, bus tokens for job search and medical appointments, transportation for elderly and disabled individuals, family needs assessments with follow-up, an employment skills program, prescription vouchers for needed medication, and a Head Start program for 1,864 children in southeast Houston, Pasadena, Deer Park and South Houston. It also offers an Early Head Start program in the Fifth Ward area for 72 infants and toddlers and 12 expectant mothers.
Community Services
The mission of Gulf Coast Community Services Association Program Services Department is to provide community residents with basic life skills through advocacy and direct service delivery promoting self-worth and a desire to better the quality of life.
Head Start
The goals of the Head Start program is to bring about a greater degree of social competence in preschool children from economically challenged families; and to enhance the child's everyday effectiveness in dealing with the present environment and future responsibilities in school and life.
Early Head Start
The goals of the Early Head Start program is to partner and support parents in meeting the needs of their child(ren) and strengthening families to become self-sufficient citizens of the Fifth Ward area.
