Community Services

GCCSA provides a wide-ranging set of community services to income-eligible families and individuals of Harris County, Texas. Through the twelve Community Services satellite offices we offer the services listed below. All prospective clients will be required to submit the following documentation prior to the delivery of any services:
  • Valid Texas Driver's License or Texas ID
  • Social Security card for all members of the household
  • Proof of income for 90 days prior to request for services (check stubs, award letters, tax forms)
After School Program - Provide administrative support for after school educational and recreational activities program in partnership with MacArthur and Gregg Elementary Schools for 100 students.

Back to School Program (seasonal - as available) - Provide school supply and clothing vouchers for income-eligible families to assist with purchasing necessary school items

Bus Tokens - Provide bus tokens to eligible individuals for the purpose of travel to/from employment search, medical appointments, and continued education.

Case Management - Provide comprehensive case management services, including assessment of needs, service plan development, service plan implementation, monitoring and advocacy. Case Managers will assess the needs of the entire family and coordinate referrals to the appropriate social service agencies.

Clothes Closet - Provide gently used clothing to income-eligible families and individuals.

Community Literacy Learning Center - Offers a variety of literacy services to the community. Please see additional information regarding these services.

Employment Skills Program - Provide job search assistance, employability assessment and planning, referrals for on the job training, resume writing, and job development, job match and retention. Please see additional information regarding these services.

Food Pantry - Provides emergency food for eligible families/individuals.

Housing Services - Offers comprehensive housing services to low and moderate-income residents in Houston/Harris County and surrounding areas. Please see additional information regarding these services.

Individual Development Account (IDA) - Contribute matching funds for educational expenses, to start a business or to purchase or renovate a home. All participants must attend Budget Counseling Classes.

Prescription Voucher Program (as available) - Provide income-eligible individuals with a prescription voucher to assist with the cost of medicine.

Senior Services - Assist homebound seniors and disabled individuals improve living conditions providing services such as meal preparation, general housekeeping, grocery shopping, clothing maintenance and budgeting. The Home Safety & Security Program provides inspection of homes for safety and security hazards, installation of wheelchair ramps, carbon monoxide detectors, smoke alarms, fire extinguishers, and replacement of entry doors and broken windows. The Transportation Program offers transportation services for the elderly and disabled to medical facilities, doctor's offices, and clinics.

Youth Services (summer) - The Presidential Fitness Youth Program is designed for youth ages 10-16 to participate in summer activities such as swimming, basketball and tennis through the Texas Southern University National Youth Sports Program.
